Vocalist Maggie Horn and producer Sammy Bananas make up Telephoned, a Brooklyn-based duo with a knack for delicious pop originals and covers.

Their latest project is a reimagining of Fun.’s mega hit, “We Are Young,” where Horn’s smooth vocals glide over Sammy’s Top Gun-style synth backdrop, eventually giving way to a big bouncy club beat.

Watch Cherub Perform “Doses & Mimosas” and “Feel So Close (Cover)” from Mercy Lounge 12.05.12

“My Dad’s here tonight, so if anyone sees Papa Huber around buy the man a fuckin’ shot!” said Jason Huber, one half of the Nashville-based dance duo, Cherub during their Friday night Mercy Lounge performance.

Jason went on to explain that the duo’s latest album Mom & Dad is his father’s second favorite album, shadowed only by Shaggy’s 2002 chart-topper Hot Shot.

This was the general vibe of the night; a mesh of intimate, humorous, sexy and fun moments fueled by the group’s impressive stage presence (Jordan Kelley’s falsetto crooning is on point), body-moving catalog of music and the general sense of hometown camaraderie between the artists and fans present.

The final moments of the duo’s performance saw openers DWNTWN and Ghosthouse hopping on stage for climactic renditions of “Doses & Mimosas,” and covers of Calvin Harris’ “Feel So Close” and Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.”

Icona Pop – I Love It (Video) 10.05.12

I first heard this Swedish duo through a BBC Radio1 rock showcase. The DJ picked Icona Pop as one of the acts to blow up in 2012 and played one of their singles, “Top Rated,” which immediately caught my attention with its charismatic vocals and infectious melodies.

Since then, I’ve been looking out for new material from these guys. Their latest track, “I Love It” is a much needed house party anthem and a perfect bridge for the current gap between eccentric techno and bubble-gum pop.

Miike Snow – The Wave (Brodinski Remix) 10.05.12

Brodinski is back with a pitch-black rework of Miike Snow‘s “the Wave,” continuing the Parisian producer’s upscale blend of dark techno and fun, danceable aesthetics.

If you like this sound, check the Club Cheval Mixtape released through Brodinksi’s label, Bromance Records – streaming now via Dazed Digital.

Goldroom – Fifteen (ft Chela) 09.05.12

In Josh Legg aka Gooldroom‘s latest single “Fifteen,” arpeggiating synths pulse like ocean waves around a thick bassline and relaxed percussion samples as lush melodies from Australian vocalist Chela narrate a romantic memory.

Listen bellow and head to the Goldroom facebook page for a free download.

RAC – Hollywood (ft. Penguin Prison) 03.05.12

Crisp guitar strums, a casual beat and catchy vocals from Penguin Prison‘s Chris Glover make up the debut single from Andre Allen Anjos aka RAC. Pop open a beer or perhaps an ice cold MTN DEW and enjoy this sunny freebie courtesy of Green Label Sound.

Twin Shadow – Five Seconds 02.05.12

Twin Shadow‘s “Five Seconds” is a much needed break from all the buzz-genre themed tumblr candy floating around these days (Is witch house still a thing? Dear God…). George Lewis Jr’s passionate vocals remain one of the best ingredients of the band’s esthetic accompanied by a driving drum beat, melancholy synth textures and a killer guitar hook.

“Five Seconds” is taken from Twin Shadow’s forthcoming album, Confess, out June 10 on 4AD.

Download the single bellow in exchange for an email.
