WORLD CUP: ENGLAND VS USA photo credit: Chase Long

I haven’t felt this patriotic since our Olympic hockey game vs Candada. I stood (on tippy toes) for hours, directly under the sun, exposing my already sun burnt flesh to the merciless fireball of hatred that lives in the sky above. No matter how much tanning lotion I re-applied, my reddened and sweating skin continued to scream. All this so that two hours into the game I could jump up and down and scream when we scored. I was holding my bros in a love grip as hundreds around us celebrated England’s inability to stop an easy goal. Worth it.

AZIZ ANSARI

I was literally the last guy let in after a long wait for the show. With people getting turned away by the hundreds you’d think Bonnaroo would invest in a larger comedy tent. The show was fun. When Aziz first came out, people started taking pictures, ‘Alright I know you’re all excited, and I’m glad your taking pictures…but It’s really distracting me so here’s what were going to do. I’m going to strike a few poses and pretend like I’m performing a routine and you guys can take all the picture you want for the next minute’. Aziz then assumed outrageous positions while saying things like ‘Are you kidding me?!’, accompanied by equally amusing facial expressions.

Incredible song writer and performer Stevie Wonder was the highlight of Bonnaroo for just about everyone. ‘I’m honored to be standing within 500 feet of this man’, said Conan O’brien before bringing the legend on stage. The artist’s entrance was one of the more bizarre stage experiences I’ve ever seen. Clad in some sort of exotic pj’s Mr. Wonder rocked a bassline on the keytar. The band eventually joined in on for the first track.

Stevie Wonder is royalty of my parent’s generation. Jay-z (who played immediately after) is royalty of my own time period. I wanted to get up close for this one. The next couple hours, my attention never strayed from this icon’s commanding presence. Jay-z has the ability to appear untouchable during one song and give an intimate birthday hug to a lucky girl in the next.

Some people hate the mau5, others absolutely love the mau5; it all depends on who you’re talking to. Deadmau5 fans may be obnoxious at times, but you have to give the man credit for carving his own distinct sound into dance music culture. This was my first time seeing him live. There was so much hype surrounding this live show, it was already made up in everyone’s mind that they were going to flip out no matter what happened. The hype was justified and the show was epic. Daft Punk deserve a tip of the hat for paving the way for this amount of visual character in a dance production.
